The American Health Council selected Alessandra Bertolucci, MD to its Board of Physicians for her outstanding contributions to the medical field. Dr. Bertolucci is a daily ophthalmologist at Associated Eye Physicians, P.A., in Clifton, N.J., and a weekly attending physician at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai in New York City. Throughout her 15-year career, Dr. Bertolucci has expanded her skills and expertise in diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, blurriness due to a need for glasses or retinal detachment, bleeding, trauma and hereditary disease.
Dr. Bertolucci was inspired by her father — who was a doctor — to pursue a career in the medical field. He instilled in her a love of science, and she has since mastered the ability to incorporate science into her consultations with her patients in order to improve their overall health and wellness. After earning a medical degree with the highest honors from the University of Pisa School of Medicine in 1988, she completed an internship at the Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J. She then completed a residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in New York and was named chief resident. She later completed a fellowship in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Since entering the ophthalmology field, Dr. Bertolucci has ensured that she remains up-to-date with current medical knowledge and eye condition treatments. Board-certified in ophthalmology, she enjoys building relationships with her patients. In addition to her ophthalmology and attending physician roles, Dr. Bertolucci serves as an associate clinical professor of ophthalmology at the New York Medical College. To continue to expand her knowledge and connect with her peers, she is a member of several professional associations, including the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Bertolucci attributes her success to her discipline, hard work and great work ethic. She plans to continue to excel her career by continuing to grow as a physician. She also plans to work with other multispecialty doctors, which she thoroughly looks forward to and enjoys doing.
