The American Health Council Welcomes Eddy A. Castillo, MD to its Board of Physicians

The American Health Council welcomes Eddy A. Castillo, MD to its Board of Physicians for his outstanding contributions to the medical field. Dr. Castillo maintains an active schedule, as he is a partner at Gastroenterology Associates of Fairfield County, a physician at The Endoscopy Center of Fairfield and director of the endoscopy lab at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Connecticut. Since entering the healthcare industry over 22 years ago, Dr. Castillo has expanded his skills and knowledge in gastroenterology, patient care and advanced endoscopic procedures.

Excelling in biology and math, Dr. Castillo decided to pursue a career in the medical field after earning a bachelor’s degree at the New York University. He enrolled at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña and earned a medical degree in 1991. He completed an internship at New York Medical College, an internal medicine residency at the Metropolitan Hospital Center and a gastroenterology fellowship at Westchester Medical Center. After receiving board certification from the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine with a subspecialty of gastroenterology, Dr. Castillo immediately began practicing in the field.

At the Gastroenterology Associates of Fairfield County and The Endoscopy Center of Fairfield, Dr. Castillo assesses patients and ensures that their medical needs are met. He is very active in education as he holds a position as an assistant professor of medicine at the Frank Netter School of Medicine at the Quinnipiac University. Many of his abstracts and pieces of work have been published nationally and he considers a 2014 publication on gastrointestinal lymphoma to be one of his best-published works.

To continue to expand his knowledge — and share his expertise with his peers — Dr. Castillo is a member of several professional associations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Medical Association, the Fairfield County Medical Association, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and the American Gastroenterological Association. He has served as a member-at-large on the Medical Executive Committee for four consecutive years in 2005 and has been an active member of the St. Vincent’s Health Partners Population Health and Finance Committee since 2014.

Dr. Castillo attributes his successful career to his involvement in creating innovating ideas in his field, such as conducting clinical trials on fatty liver disease. He believes his perseverance and desire to do the right thing constantly fuels his motivation to excel his career. He plans to continue to succeed by teaching, mentoring and researching. Above all, he will continue to provide excellent patient care.
