The American Health Council Selects Katherine Haymore, MSN, CPNP to Board of Nurses

Katherine Haymore, MSN, CPNP was recently selected to the American Health Council’s Board of Nurses for her outstanding contributions to the nursing field. A primary care pediatric nurse practitioner at Novant Health, Forsyth Pediatrics in Winston Salem, N.C., Ms. Haymore ensures that children receive high-quality and immediate care. While she has held her current role for eight years, she has spent the last 11 years in the healthcare field expanding her skills and knowledge in pediatrics and adolescent medicine.

When she was young, Ms. Haymore admired her childhood primary care provider, who was also a pediatric nurse practitioner. Throughout her adolescence, she developed a strong interest in the nursing field. After completing an internship with her primary care provider during her senior year of high school, Ms. Haymore decided to enroll at Cabarrus College of Health Science to earn both an Associate Degree in Nursing in 2006 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2007. She then earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Duke University in 2009, and immediately set out to make a difference in others’ lives.

Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Haymore realized the value of giving back to younger generations, and has found it rewarding to help steer them toward health and positive decision making. With a background in pediatric critical care at both Levine Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Brenner Children’s Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, Ms. Haymore guided families through obstacles and times of dismay. Eventually landing at Novant Health, Forsyth Pediatrics as a primary care pediatric nurse practitioner, she is now able to help families and patients take an active role in improving their health.

Ms. Haymore attributes her success to perseverance and the unwavering guidance of every professor that taught her skills and knowledge, as well as each preceptor that guided her to discover her passion to help her patients and families. During her academic pursuit, Ms. Haymore’s patience never wavered, and her tenacity helped her conquer her goal to help patients. She has vowed to never give up on her patients and to advocate for their needs whenever possible. Her positive attitude and experience earned her admission to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Additionally, Ms. Haymore belongs to the North Carolina Nurses Association and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

Among her achievements, Ms. Haymore considers her marriage to her high school sweetheart and her two children her biggest personal achievements. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, volunteering at her local church as well as enjoying nature. Above all, Ms. Haymore looks forward to continuing to provide excellent care, as well as mentoring new nurse practitioners.
