The American Health Council Appoints Ms. Cynthia Miller to the Nursing Board

Ms. Cynthia Miller, of Sandia Park, NM, has been appointed onto the Nursing Board of the American Health Council after more than 36 years of dedicated service to the healthcare industry. Ms. Miller has been in her current role at San Antonio Elementary for the past 5 years.

Ms. Miller has always had a desire to help people, which is why she became involved in the medical profession. Her father, who was a police officer, was also a big influence over her to help others. Ms. Miller graduated from Central Michigan University in 1995, where her major area of study was administration. She also attained her MSA and CPNP qualifications. Her qualifications coupled with her professional experience have allowed her to refine her expertise in supporting individuals through child sexual abuse and assault.

Ms. Miller is proud to work at San Antonio Elementary School, which was founded in 1928. The school can be found in San Antonio, New Mexico and is just 9 miles south of Socorro. The small, rural school caters for students from kindergarten to 5th grade living in southern Socorro County and in San Antonio. The building itself holds a lot of heritage as it is one of the oldest occupied buildings in the district. The school specializes in education, public education and elementary education. The day to day responsibilities of Ms. Miller consist of assisting between 40 and 50 children a day. Some of these have chronic illnesses that require regular help however, she also looks after children with minor injuries like cuts, bumps and bruises.

Ms. Miller is proud to have served in the military as a nurse, been a Wellness Director and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner of Oklahoma. She even won Wellness Director of the Year and in 2011, School Nurse of the Year in recognition of her invaluable contributions to the fields. Ms. Miller credits her success to her ingrained desire to help children and advocate for them. She prides herself on her positive work-life balance that has allowed to raise her 4 children alongside her other commitments.

To learn from her fellow esteemed professionals, Ms. Miller is a member of both the School Nurse Association and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. When not working, Ms. Miller likes to be outdoors including playing golf, hiking, and running marathons. She also gives back to her community through volunteering to screen children/adults for family health programs.

Looking to the future, Ms. Miller wants to continue making a difference and impacting the lives of young people through the high levels of care she provides.
