The American Health Council has warmly welcomed Mrs. Shayla Schneider, BSc, BSP, RPh, BCACP to its prestigious Industry Board in recognition of her contributions to the pharmacy field. Having amassed an impressive 20 years experience, Mrs. Schneider is particularly noted for her services in the role of Community Pharmacy Manager.
Mrs. Schneider first became interested in the healthcare profession through her love of the sciences and desire to help others, pursuing an initial degree in Biochemistry. When a friend suggested pharmacy as a career option, and after compiling some research of her own, she decided to focus her studies on a future career in the field.
In 1998, Mrs. Schneider graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, achieving her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with Distinction. Mrs. Schneider remained in Canada, where she practiced for the first four years of her career in the community pharmacy setting. Following a move to the USA, Mrs. Schneider was required to convert her pharmacist license through the process of further examinations. As a result, she now holds licences in the states of Kentucky, where she worked for 6 years, and in New Jersey, where she has worked for the past 10 years. Mrs. Schneider developed a passion for community pharmacy over the years and is committed to the advancement of the role of the community pharmacist in health care. Throughout her career, she has served as a preceptor to future pharmacists and was awarded District 8 Preceptor of the Year in 2018.
In July 2018, to strengthen and expand her skills as a community pharmacist, Mrs. Schneider became Board Certified in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy (BCACP). She is also certified in Medication Therapy Management, Immunization Administration and CPR. In order to continually broaden her knowledge, Mrs. Schneider remains an active member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists.
Over the course of her impressive career, Mrs. Schneider has spent 16 years with CVS Pharmacy, upholding the position of Pharmacy Manager for the past 4 years. CVS Pharmacy is a retail pharmacy chain offering a wide range of innovative health and beauty products, new and refill prescriptions, immunizations and innovative care programs that help improve health outcomes.
Displaying extensive expertise in her field as a community pharmacist and pharmacy manager, Mrs. Schneider’s daily responsibilities go beyond traditional dispensing. She has developed a loyal customer base and is sought out by them for counseling on their prescription and OTC medications and self limiting conditions. For the past several years, she has helped protect the public from influenza by planning and participating in flu shot clinics at local businesses and nursing homes. Along with her pharmacy interns, she participates in community activities, including disease state awareness days and free Check your Meds Day, performing medication reviews for customers on-site at her pharmacy, who were often referred to her event by their physician.
Mrs. Schneider attributes her many successes to the excitement and drive she experiences when she is able to help people, alongside her strong work ethic and genuine care for others. Additionally, she enjoys teaching others to pass on her wealth of knowledge.
Looking to the future, Mrs. Schneider hopes to contribute more to improving health outcomes by working with people in her community on chronic care management, transitions of care between hospital discharge and the community and preventative care ideally, through working with physicians in their clinics or being a part of a pharmacy medication management/wellness clinic.
Outside of work, Mrs. Schneider enjoys spending time with her family, creating her own greeting cards and gift bags and travelling.
