The American Health Council has warmly welcomed Dr. Erin Mills onto the prestigious Physical Therapy Board. Dr. Mills has spent four years working in the healthcare industry, gaining exemplary experience as a physical therapist in this time.
Dr. Mills has been intrigued by medicine and healthcare from a young age. After an incident in high school led her to tear her ACL, she required months of physical therapy. It was during this time that she developed a personal relationship with her therapist, who inspired her to utilize her passion and curiosity in the healthcare field, realizing her compassion for helping others would be best served as a physical therapist.
Dr. Mills began her academic endeavors at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Studying from 2006 to 2010, Dr. Mills obtained her Bachelor of Science degree and also her qualification in Pre-Medicine/Pre-Medical Studies. It was following on from this achievement that Dr. Mills decided to stay in education, this time at the A.T. Still University of Health Sciences where she graduated in 2014 with her Doctor Physical Therapy doctorate. In order to maintain her knowledge and learning, Dr. Mills is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
Dr. Mills currently works as a physical therapist at The Core Institute. The Core Institute provides best in orthopedic practice to various Arizona and Michigan locations. The Core Institute is rated #1 in orthopedic practice ranking in the state of Arizona. Dr. Mills is currently serving patients with a wide range of orthopedic conditions in Mesa, Arizona. Dr. Mills provides quality care to patients with an evidence based practice approach and her ability to individualize treatment plans by listening to the needs of the patient.
Dr. Mills has spent four years working in the healthcare industry, gaining previous experience working as a physical therapist at OrthoArizona, as well as, part-time at RehabCare, a skilled nursing facility. In her daily role, Dr. Mills treats a variety of patients, in both outpatient and inpatient settings, whilst often participating with a multidisciplinary team.
Specializing in orthopedics, Dr. Mills also displays expertise in general surgery, post-surgical orthopedics, cardiopulmonary, neurological and vestibular conditions, chronic pain, assessing falls and deconditioning. Her level of care to patients enables her to provide comprehensive evaluation to determine best plan of care and assist with discharge planning. She provides patients with educational tools, as well as, caregiver education. Dr. Mills is passionate about empowering patients to obtain and maintain independence and ‘live a healthy lifestyle’ to their full potential.
Dr. Mills attributes much of her success to great mentors in college, as well as opportunities to serve the underserved and uninsured. From there, she continued to develop her core values and widen her perspective through various community services. Dr. Mills is now actively promoting injury prevention in young athletes and fall prevention in older adults. It is her commitment to personal growth in her career, alongside her strong willpower and a spiritual relationship, that contribute to her ongoing success.
In the future, Dr. Mills’ long-term goal is to establish a multi-disciplinary clinic with a primary focus on individual wellness, hoping to create an environment which supports the health and wellness of each unique individual and with an emphasis on the importance of awareness for promoting prevention, in addition to treating conventional patients. Dr. Mills strives to be part of the change in the healthcare industry by employing what is most important and valuable to the population, as we move into a shifting focus to prevention over treatment. She hopes she can be part of the change to allowing physical therapists to assess patients as an annual check-up.
Outside of work, Dr. Mills loves to travel, visit the beach and read. Her spare time is spent being active both to remain physically fit, as well as, active within the community volunteering her time. Her favorite travel experience is Costa Rica and in the near future plans to visit Croatia, Thailand and the Philippines. In her quiet time, Dr. Mills enjoys reading self-empowering and personal development books.
Dr. Mills also dedicates time to charitable organizations when possible, including the Special Olympics and Ability360. She continually strives to promote health and wellness within the community whilst is also having an active role providing community services through her church.
