The American Health Council Appoints Dr. Anthony Japour, MD to the Physician Board

Based in Miami, Florida, Dr. Anthony Japour, a Medical Director and Researcher at ICON PLC, has been warmly welcomed onto the Physician Board of the esteemed American Health Council. Dr. Japour has worked in the healthcare industry for an impressive thirty-one years and has spent the past two years in his current position.

Throughout his childhood and early life, Dr. Japour maintained a keen interest in medicine, which is what inspired him to pursue a career in healthcare. When he was just four years old, Dr. Japour would often be found walking around carrying a doctor’s bag and a stethoscope; it was his favourite game.
Dr. Japour completed his MD at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, successfully graduating in 1986. This was followed by a residency at Harvard Medical School at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge and Fellowship at Beth Israel Hospital, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Boston Children’s Hospital. His strong education coupled with his professional experience has allowed Dr. Japour to refine his expertise in internal medicine, patient care, drug development, AIDS, HIV and research.
In his current role as Medical Director and Researcher at ICON plc, the responsibilities of Dr. Japour include hands-on work in pioneering clinical research projects and well as working on drug developments and ethics. Furthermore, he is involved in exploring other revolutionary ideas for more clinical trials.

Amongst his many achievements, Dr. Japour is particularly proud of the impressive 20 plus publications and 100 plus abstracts he has been involved with. In addition, he was awarded both the NIAD Physician Scientist Award and the NIH RO1 Research Investigator Award for his outstanding contributions. He was recently elected the Board of Directors of Cocrystal Pharma, a clinical stage biotechnology company discovering and developing novel antiviral therapeutics that target the replication machinery of hepatitis viruses, influenza viruses, and noroviruses
Dr. Japour credits his ongoing success to his ability to embrace new ways of working and his willingness to always be open to trying new things. Over the next 5 years, Dr. Japour is going to be preparing for an esteemed government-appointed position.

When not busy working, Dr. Japour loves to spend as much time as possible with his family and gives back to others through his support of many charitable organizations including the Friends of Prince BamBam Society devoted to promoting childhood literacy; the Diabetes Research Initiative and their efforts to cure diabetes, among many others.
