Every year, approximately 150,000 Americans undergo a foot or leg amputation due to complications arising from peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Unfortunately, half of them will die within 18 months. Peripheral arterial disease is a narrowing of the peripheral arteries (those not in the chest or abdomen).
