New Hampshire health officials say patients and staff at two Manchester clinics may have been exposed to scabies.
Under a moderate modification, this photomicrograph revealed the histopathologic changes in a human skin sample from the site of a number of scabies burrows, due to an infestation of Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Note that the scabies had burrowed into the upper layers of this patient’s skin, into the epidermis, superficial to the stratum basale, also known as the stratum germinativum.
