The American Health Council Appoints Ms. Hinakumari Rey, MS to the Physician Board

The American Health Council has cordially invited Ms. Hinakumari Rey, MS, to join its prestigious Physician Board in recognition of her contributions to the healthcare sector over the past two decades, particularly in the capacity of Physician Assistant.

Ms. Rey began her career path by achieving her MS in PA Studies from Rutgers University in 1998. Ms. Rey has always shown a keen interest in medicine and originally aspired to become a doctor; however, when the career path she first pursued didn’t work out as planned, she took a class at Yale for women and minorities to help prepare for testing. It was during this class that Ms. Rey was exposed to the role of PA and found that it suited her skills perfectly.

Having embarked on her new career path, Ms. Rey has fulfilled PA roles at Palisades Emergency Consultants and Share Medical Center since 2005. Ms. Rey splits her time between two venues, working 1 week per month in the emergency department at Share Medical in Oklahoma, and the remaining 3 weeks in the emergency department at Hackensack University. Displaying expertise in emergency medicine and critical access, Ms. Rey’s daily responsibilities see her treating patients of all ages.

The Palisades Emergency Consultants Medical Center is a non-profit organization, serving a population of 450,000 in Hudson and Southern Bergen Counties. As well as featuring a 206-bed hospital and an emergency department, the center offers services in women’s health, outpatient testing, physical medicine, child care, clinical services, cardiac care, rehab, pediatrics and mental health counseling.

The Share Medical Center is regarded as the number one healthcare provider and employer of choice in the region, providing excellent customer service and quality healthcare. Services offered include urgent care, emergency, hospital, occupational health, physical rehab, senior services, sleep studies, surgery and telehealth.

Throughout her career, Ms. Rey has had the opportunity to work in various settings including family practice, neurology, hospital medicine and urgent care. She attributes her success to her ability to treat everyone in the same manner, whilst always listening to patients, as well as her desire to continue her education.

Continually striving to broaden her knowledge in order to give her patients the best care possible, Ms. Rey is a professional member of several prestigious organizations including the American Academy of Physicians Assistants, the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants, the New Jersey Society of Physician Assistants and the Oklahoma Association of Physician Assistants.

Looking to the future, Ms. Rey plans to continue sharing her knowledge by becoming more involved with speaking, writing and publishing articles, enabling her to educate and teach others. She also plans to get involved politically in more societies, with the aim of making a bigger impact.

In her time away from work, Ms. Rey enjoys spending time with her family, particular her three children and her husband, who also works in the medical field as a nurse.
