Dr. Tina Girvin, PharmD has been warmly welcomed onto the Industry Board by the American Health Council for her seven years’ experience as a pharmacist with retail giant Walmart.
Having begun her professional life as the owner and director of a roofing company, Dr. Girvin’s interest in pharmacy was first sparked by a cousin who worked as a pharmacist. Three years’ rewarding experience as a technician at Broward Hospital convinced her to pursue a degree in pharmacy, and in 2011 she received her doctorate from the University of Florida. She studied nuclear medicine, and completed part of her training at the Moffitt Cancer Center.
Dr. Girvin began working for Walmart as an intern while she was still in pharmacy school, and upon graduation she moved into a full-time position with the company. Walmart’s full-service pharmacy offers a range of services to help patients save time and money, including working directly with physicians or insurance companies to make sure patients receive the highest quality prescription services at the lowest possible price. Recently Dr. Girvin was recognized for her ten years of continuous service to Walmart.
Working in collaboration with doctors and nurses, Dr. Girvin assists customers with prescriptions, immunizations and prescription disposal. A major part of her role is counselling and educating patients, and she is also responsible for compliance with company policy, Federal and State regulations. She plays a front-line role in Walmart’s commitment to tackle the opioid addiction crisis.
Dr. Girvin has hugely enjoyed her association with Walmart and looks forward to continuing to serve her patients and her community as a Walmart pharmacist. She attributes much of her success to the pleasure she takes in working with customers, as well as the support of her family, her passion for her work and her drive to succeed.
Outside work, Dr. Girvin enjoys spending time with her family. Her hobbies include reading, boating and having lunch with her mother. She also volunteers her time to disaster relief efforts and her church.
