The American Health Council Appoints Dr. Mitchell Harris Jr, PharmD, to the Industry Board

The American Health Council has warmly welcomed Dr. Mitchell T. Harris Jr, PharmD, MSHA, CPh to its prestigious Industry Board. Despite being early in his professional career, Dr. Harris, from Tallahassee, Florida, has already established a strong reputation as a highly regarded clinical pharmacist.

Early on, while deciding the career path he wanted to take, Dr. Harris thought about working as a patent lawyer in the pharmaceutical industry. He became involved during high school when he began working as a stocker for Walmart pharmacy and grew to love the profession of pharmacy.

Following the completion of his BS in 2007 at Florida A&M University, Dr. Harris furthered his studies with his PharmD, attaining this qualification in 2014. He then enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he successfully achieved his MSHA in 2017.

Currently, Dr. Harris works as a Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator at AdventHealth, one of the country’s largest not-for-profit health care providers with 46 hospital campuses serving communities nationwide. Being a faith-based, not-for-profit, health system means they are here for something much more important; the patient. For more than 100 years, they have been profoundly committed to those who seek their care. In fact, they’ve become known the world over for the expert, compassionate, individualized whole-person care given to the millions who have already passed through their doors, and the million plus patients who visit them each year.

Having upheld his current position for the past 10 months, daily, Dr. Harris works as a clinical coordinator while actively involved with administration, clinical education, and development of a pharmacy residency program in which he also serves as a preceptor.

With strong interpersonal skills, an aptitude for problem solving, and clear leadership capabilities, Dr. Harris works hard, never gives up, and is dedicated to giving the best care possible. His efforts are already receiving recognition, including his receipt of the Black History in the Making Award in 2017 by Virginia Commonwealth University.

Keen to continue progressing professionally, Dr. Harris is an active member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Looking to the future, Dr. Harris would like to continue his development as a leader and grow into progressive levels of responsibility, culminating with a C- suite role. When not busy working, Dr. Harris enjoys spending time with his family. He also enjoys fishing and boating.
