The American Health Council has cordially appointed Dr. Laura Mac, MS, CCC-SLPD to its prestigious Industry Board in recognition of her outstanding contributions. Working in the healthcare industry for over 18 years, Dr. Mac has become a leading expert in the field as a Speech Language Pathology, and has also established her own successful practice.
Dr. Mac always knew that she wanted to be involved in the medical field due to her nature and a strong desire to help others. The field of Speech-Language Pathology was particularly attractive as it allowed her to help those with disabilities to communicate and live with as much independence as possible.
Dr. Mac began her academic endeavours with the completion of her BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Florida in 2000. The esteemed doctor then further pursued her studies, subsequently attaining her M.S Master of Speech Language Pathology in 2004 from Nova Southeastern University.
Later in 2015, Dr. Mac returned to education in order to achieve her SLPD Doctor of Speech Language Pathology with a concentration in the Autism Spectrum Disorder, again attending the Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Mac is also a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of Florida and a certified member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.
Dr. Mac has served in the healthcare industry for 18 years, gaining extensive expertise in areas such as pediatric speech pathology, autism spectrum disorders, pragmatic disorders, language delays, articulation disorders, feeding disorders/aversions and apraxia. Dr. Mac also has a specialist interest in children with ADD/ADHD, developmental delays, genetic syndromes, neurological disorders, dysphagia and dysarthria
Dr. Mac has undertaken the role of Speech Language Pathologist and owner of Premier Pediatric Therapy, P.A for almost a decade. On a day to day basis, Dr. Mac treats children with a variety of speech, language and feeding disorders and delays. Premier Pediatric Therapy, P.A specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of speech, language, feeding, motor and sensory processing disorders. Their highly trained staff of both state and nationally certified occupational therapists and speech language pathologists understand the importance of caregiver involvement and utilizing evidence-based practices in order to ensure the highest level of therapeutic gains. The main goal is to develop and teach child-specific therapy goals, while empowering children and their families to generalize these skills into everyday life. The practice provides therapy in their child’s natural learning environment, while building a strong foundation for the child to optimally achieve and grow.
Dr. Mac’s success stems from her former mentor, Dr. Robin Parker, who encouraged her to continue her education in the field and fulfill her dream of earning a doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Dr. Mac also attributes her many achievements to her family, who have always been a source of encouragement and support.
Continually striving to broaden her knowledge in the field, Dr. Mac remains a part of numerous associations including the American Speech-Hearing Association, the American Occupational Therapy Association, the American Physical Therapy Association and the Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honors Society.
Over the next five years, Dr. Mac plans to expand her business with the aim of starting a non-profit service which offers clinic-based pediatric therapy services for individuals who cannot afford treatment.
Dr. Mac is a Florida native with 3 children. In her time away from work, her hobbies include fishing, snorkelling, diving, paddle boarding and anything that involves the ocean. Dr. Mac also dedicates her time to charities including the Surfers for Autism and has involvement with Partners in Education – Palm Beach County School District, Teacher of the Year – Martin County School District, and is a Sponsor of the Tequesta Firefighters Association.
