The American Health Council has warmly welcomed Dr. Derrick C. Glymph, DNAP, CRNA, to its prestigious Nursing Board. With over 25 years experience, Dr. Glymph, from Florida, is a highly respected Clinical Associate Professor with particular expertise in patient safety, obstetric anesthesia, and simulations.
Dr. Glymph became involved in his profession after joining the U.S. Army right out of high school and becoming an LPN; he loved nursing from that moment on. Dr. Glymph is extremely proud to have been working in healthcare since 1993 and was a Colonel in the Army, as well as a Chief Anesthetist.
Dr. Glymph first studied at Norfolk State University, attaining his BSN in 1997, before enrolling at Virginia Commonwealth University and achieving his MSNA in 2004 and his DNAP in 2010. For the past 6 years, Dr. Glymph has worked as a Clinical Associate Professor at Florida International University. His day to day responsibilities include working as a CRNA, doing clinical work, teaching simulations, and conducting research into pain management and patient safety.

Looking back at his impressive career to date, Dr. Glymph attributes his success to his mentors, receiving good advice, and to his hard work. He remains affiliated with Sigma Theta Tau and the American Nurses Association and is the proud recipient of numerous awards including, the Legacy Award in 2015, the Nursing Excellence Award and the Community Service Award from Norfolk State University in 2008, the Nurse Anesthesia Research Award from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2004 and the Program Director Outstanding Student Researcher Award from the AANA Foundation in 2004. This is in addition to various online teaching awards.
Dr. Glymph’s goals within the next 5 years include growing at the university, obtaining a leadership role, and impacting research in pain management. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling and fishing in his spare time, in addition to charitably supporting the American Red Cross.
