The American Health Council welcomed Robert Milby, Pharm.D., BS to its Industry Board for his outstanding contributions to the pharmaceutical industry. A pharmacy manager at Walgreens Pharmacy in Egg Harbor Township in N.J., Dr. Milby is responsible for managing staff members, works alongside patients and consulates an HIV Specialty Store. While he has held his current role for two years, he has spent over 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry expanding his skills and knowledge in pharmacy operation, staff development and retail pharmacy.
After accepting a service clerk position at Walgreens in 2006, Dr. Milby eventually progressed into the pharmacy department, where he assisted the pharmacist on staff. The experience inspired him to pursue a career as a pharmacist in order to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. After earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a minor in biology from Temple University in 2012, he immediately enrolled in the academic institution’s School of Pharmacy. In 2013, he completed a pharmacy internship at Kmart Corporation, where he worked alongside his preceptor to complete his Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) rotation. During his internship, Dr. Milby developed skills in counseling, wellness, processing prescriptions and dispensing them to patients.
In 2014, Dr. Milby began a second pharmacy internship at Kennedy Health System where he developed skills to succeed as a hospital pharmacist. He continued to strengthen his skills as he received, verified and filled orders from doctors, delivered medications to various departments, performed clinical rounds in the intensive care unit and completed daily management functions. After earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Temple University School of Pharmacy in 2016, Dr. Milby applied knowledge and skills he gained during a rigorous academic training.
A seasoned pharmacist, Dr. Milby was named the District New Graduate Trainer at Walgreens, where he continues to practice immunization management and is actively involved in the HIV Specialty Store. He contributes funds to the United Way Worldwide, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In his free time, he enjoys construction and remodeling his home, while also assisting his parents with flipping houses.
With a prosperous career at hand, Dr. Milby attributes his success to creating a happy and positive environment for his staff and patients. He increased team morale and profitability to ensure that both staff and patients communicate effectively. He plans to continue to grow and expand his skills at Walgreens and to strive to be the best leader and manager possible.
