American Health Council Names Shannon Dart, RN, BSN, WCC to Nursing Board

Shannon Dart, Inpatient Wound Care Nurse at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, has been selected to join the Nursing Board at the American Health Council. She will be sharing her knowledge and expertise on wound care and direct patient care.

With over seventeen years of experience in the field of Nursing, Shannon utilizes her expertise in her role as an Inpatient Wound Care Nurse at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. Ranked as one of the nation’s top integrated healthcare systems by Modern Healthcare magazine, Sentara serves as one of the nation’s top integrated healthcare system. Located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Sentara Albemarle Medical Center is a 182-licensed bed, full service-facility that offers a variety of service including patient and critical care, a full array of surgical services, sophisticated diagnostic imaging technology, comprehensive women’s care, cardiology, cancer treatment, rehabilitation services and more.

In her current capacity as an Inpatient Wound Care Nurse at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center since 2010, Shannon’s day-to-day responsibilities include educating the staff, monitoring nurses, following up on patient consultations and ensuring patients are properly situated.

Prior to her role as an Inpatient Wound Care Nurse at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Shannon worked as a charge nurse at Winslow Memorial Home from 2003 to 2007, where she documented notes, aided the nursing staff with iv medications, and triaged patients with clinical changes.

In 2012, Shannon earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville University. She is a registered nurse and holds a wound care certification.

Looking back, Shannon attributes her success to hard work and dedication. She pursued the field of nursing after her younger brother was severely injured in a car accident. Fascinated by the level of care her brother received, Shannon believed the field of nursing was the ideal choice.

Amassing seventeen years in the nursing field, Shannon is proud of her ability to perform pressure ulcer reduction procedures consistently for past two years.

To further her professional development, Shannon maintains a membership with The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) and The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care.

Considering the future, Shannon hopes for continual growth in her career.
